What You'll Be Doing

Support small village communities in Lombok by building and renovating essential infrastructure

This project is dedicated to supporting communities in and around Lombok by building and renovating essential infrastructure. Work in schools, community centers, playgrounds, and public libraries, improving living conditions through hands-on efforts.

You’ll work closely with local skilled workers, learning from their expertise and contributing to sustainable, impactful projects. Every task helps alleviate stress on local communities while developing your own construction skills.

Bricklaying

Learn and assist with laying bricks for walls and foundations alongside local masons.

Carpentry

Build furniture, doors, windows, and wooden structures for schools and community spaces.

Painting

Refresh classrooms, walls, and community spaces with vibrant colors that inspire learning.

Tiling

Install and repair floor and wall tiles in bathrooms, kitchens, and communal areas.

Landscaping

Create gardens, playgrounds, and outdoor learning spaces for children to enjoy.

General Maintenance

Repair infrastructure, improve facilities, and help with whatever the community needs.

Morning

Free Time

Enjoy breakfast at the volunteer house. Your morning is free to relax, explore Senggigi, plan your day, or prepare for the afternoon work session.

Afternoon

Construction Work

Travel to your project site and work alongside local skilled workers. 3 hours of hands-on construction: painting, building, renovating, and improving community facilities.

Evening

Your Time

Return to the volunteer house for dinner. Spend your evening exploring Senggigi beach, relaxing at the pool, or socializing with fellow volunteers.

Construction Schedule – Monday to Friday

Construction work runs Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (3 hours daily). This afternoon-only schedule gives you plenty of time to explore Lombok, enjoy the beaches, and experience local culture while still making a meaningful impact on the community.

What You’ll Do: Work alongside local skilled workers on various projects including bricklaying, carpentry, painting, tiling, and landscaping. Every task helps improve schools, community centers, and public facilities.

Registration Fee: A one-time registration fee of US$60 secures your spot and covers all pre-departure support services. This is in addition to the Program Fee above.

Getting Started

Arrival & Orientation

Everything you need to know about starting your program

📍 Arrival Information

Start Date: The Lombok program orientation begins every Monday. You need to arrive at Lombok on the Sunday before your program start date.

Arrival Options: You can arrive via Lombok International Airport (LOP) or Lembar Harbour/Senggigi Harbour/Bangsal Harbour on the Sunday before your orientation.

Pick-up: Pick-up is included in your Program Fee and available 24 hours. Our local team will greet you at the harbour/airport.

Note: Your Program Fee covers accommodation, including the night before your program orientation, so you’ll have a place to rest as soon as you arrive!

1-Day Orientation

Standard

Begins on your selected start date (Monday) and covers everything you need to know for your volunteer program in one comprehensive day.

  • Introduction to Lombok Program and local staff
  • Indonesian customs, rules, expectations, and safety
  • Teaching-specific meeting covering all placement details
  • Start construction work Tuesday afternoon

5-Day Culture Week

Recommended

Begins on your chosen start date (Monday) and runs for the first five days. Immerse yourself in Indonesian culture before starting your construction work.

Requirements

Who Can Join?

Active volunteers ready to make an impact through hands-on work

Age Requirement

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to participate independently. Ages 16-17 require parental consent. Volunteers aged 3+ can join when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

No Construction Experience Needed

You’ll have guidance from a project coordinator and local skilled workers, so no experience is required. This program is perfect for beginners who are willing to learn and work hard!

English Proficiency

All volunteers must speak English fluently as a native or near-native speaker to effectively teach and communicate with students and staff.

Background Check

Volunteers aged 18+ must provide a criminal background check before departure. Volunteers aged 16-17 can provide two character reference letters instead if unable to obtain a background check.

Travel Insurance

Adequate volunteer travel insurance is mandatory for all participants to ensure you’re covered throughout your program.

Physical Fitness & Attitude

This program is ideal for active volunteers who don’t mind getting their hands dirty and are willing to help with whatever the local community needs. Construction work can be physically demanding, so a positive attitude is essential!

Cultural Respect

To respect local culture and customs in Lombok, volunteers should be aware that they’re unable to have anything obstructing their face while at their volunteer placement.

Visa Requirements

All volunteers joining must obtain a C6 Visa. This visa has additional costs and can take up to 15 working days to process. We’ll guide you through the application process.
